Whats the worst thing that can happen to you while on antidepressants?!

? Sexual problems
? Headache
? Nausea
? Insomnia
? Nervousness or agitation
? Weight gain or weight loss
? Sweating
? Fatigue

All antidepressant medications have a risk of causing an increase in suicidal thoughts

I was shocked the the list of side effects when I was put on anti-depressants but my doctor explained the main ones are feeling sick & stomach aches.
I ended up feeling very sick for the first few days (not just nausea either, feeling generally unwell too) but that was because my body wasn't used to it & after a few days it went away.
People have listed that their could be sexual problems which you will think of as decreased desire for sex & that is one but there is also problems reaching an orgasm (in girls but that is rare) & erectile dis-function (clearly in men) & also, in some cases an increased desire for sex.
They can effect your liver so drinking should be avoided, I didn't drink at all when I was on them but I did weed & I was fine. After I came off them I went out a few days later & drank, I just got drunk really quickly but after a long time of not drinking & my body readjusting once off the tablets it was bound to happen. I didn't drink because I was unsure how it could effect my liver if it even did but I know people who have drank whilst on them & been fine.
Heart palpitations is one I experienced, like the sickness it was only while my body adjusted.
Ermmm....feeling thirsty more often, needing the toilet more often. Sometimes they can make you really awake or really drowsy. Mine pretty much knocked me out but all I had to do was switch the time I took them to right before bed.
They can, in very rare cases, increase suicidal thoughts but chances are the doctor will want you to come back in a week anyway to see how they're working out for you so if anything is going horribly wrong you can tell them then or make an emergency appointment.
All the tablets are different & suited for different symptoms, for example I was put on one often given to people who suffer from anxiety as panic attack was one of my symptoms.

I had a list of the side effects but I threw it out a few days ago so I've just wrote down ones I remembered or experienced. Hope this helped.

why the heck are people giving thumbs down to your answers? There ARE a lot of side effects to antidepressants, and anyone can actually die if they are allergic to a med, which death is probably the worst case scenario. ??? I don't understand these thumbs down people give sometimes. i think sometimes they just get off on it.

anyhow, sexual side effects, anxiety and agitation are actually pretty common side effects.

In my case, i got mania from antidepressents, ever increasing agitation, and if I had succeeded at suicide, then that would be a bad scenario - trash my life due to the meds, then kill myself, too, so I am remembered as a loser, too.

some people become violent on SSRIs or SSNIs and kill other people - that is a rare horrifically bad result. it is thought that the agitation is what is causing this suicidal and homicidal behavior.

Ps the previous anwerer said that sexual side effects in women are rare - that is NOT TRUE. the drug companies have deliberately concealed that information. A large majority of people get sexual dysfunction from antidepressants, and of those who get that side effect, up to 9o % discontinue the med soon after, according to John Hopkins University. Anorgasmia is a very common side effect, and this is not a normally occurring sexual dysfunction, only meds cause this kind of problem, so it is not correct to say that the underlying depression is the cause, which is what a lot of drug company funded websites will tell you (NAMI gets 2/3 of their funding from drug companies, for example, as do many other depression and other "non profits")

You could experience sexual problems, severe headaches/nausea, problems sleeping, agitation/anxiety, either weight gain or weight loss, sweating, you could become dependant on them (resulting in severe withdrawal symptoms when you stop using) or you could have a severe allergic reaction to them.

You could be allergic to it and die.

That's probably the worst thing that could happen.
