Why do ******* like to deny that depression is real?!

Question: Why do ******* like to deny that depression is real?
or tell you to "snap out of it" as if you have a choice
why is there such a stigma attached to depression?

Answers:

People tell you to snap out of it because they don't understand depression. They think that you have the ability to do that; that you only have depression because maybe you dwell on your negative thoughts too long and too often. There is a stigma around depression because it a mental illness. Also, I think part of the stigma comes from lack of understanding too. Some people believe that having depression makes you a weak person, as they would for an alcoholic (though that is not true either - alcoholics are not weak people really).

A lot of people view it as a weakness and not an illness. There needs to be more education for people as to what exactly depression is and what causes it. The best way to fight the stigma though is to not be ashamed yourself. If you don't try to hide it, or if you don't act embarrassed about it then people will feel less uncomfortable around you.

Depression is real and dealing with depression can be a challenge. Surround yourself with people who provide support to you. Talk to your doctor about your feelings. Your doctor will help with a treatment plan or give you referrals to a therapist or counselor. Take Care and keep reaching out for help.

Because they are very ignorant and misinformed. They have no idea what it is like to go through depression, or any sort of mental disorder.

because they just dont know what its like. Sometimes we just cant understand something unless we've been through it ourselves.

I am not sure but I am sure as hell a victim of it. Sometimes people just want you to be better and aren't sure exactly what to say

That pisses me off too. People who are shallow and have their heads in the clouds should just keep their mouths shut about any type of mental illness. They know nothing.
