Question: I want to stop cutting for good but dont know if i can?
ive been talking out my issues and started taking antidepressants about a week ago and while im waiting for the antidepressants to kick in im as depressed and anxious as ever and as a result im as tempted to cut as ive ever been and i dont know if i can stop cutting for good. what are some things i can do to make avoiding cutting suck less (the longer i avoid cutting the more i want to) and how can i keep myself from crying? i really hate crying but sometimes i cant help it

I understand this all too well. It ultimately comes down to putting enough distance between yourself and the SI and finding another outlet for the pain and anxiety that helps soothe you just as well. The longer you go without self harming, the easier it will get (I know it hurts a lot and you have severe urges when you try to stop at first) but with time, the desire dies down.

I started journaling, playing video games, painting, screaming and crying when I needed to get the emotions out. It's a different feeling than cutting but it's so much healthier to distract and with time you'll find that you feel better without cutting.

You're at the stage when you believe that there are no other ways to deal with life other than self harm but trust me, there are. You're doing great. Just hold on :)

If its the feeling of cutting that helps you cope then cut something other than your self, cut fruit or something, inflicting physical pain especially from cutting yourself is dangerous as im sure you know, if its pain that helps you cope then try a different pain that's beneficial, go on a run, sprint until you cant breath....safely of course, do push ups till the point it hurts,try anything to get your mind off self abuse, and try to indulge in your crying, if you are all alone then cry if you feel the need, it cant hurt, just try to find something to cheer yourself up. I'm not sure about this one but if you like feeling pain when your sad get tweezers and pull out nose hairs, or trim your eyebrows or any other unwanted hair, this can definitely be painful but not harmful, Life can definitely suck, your not alone, please don't feel alone.



Depression is something that always seems self focused and suicidal in nature. You need to think about others and how your absence could effect them. Your family has invested in you, and you must succeed for them. You should not think about you, but about others, and how to help them and make a difference in the world. Put down the knife and go out there and help people less fortunate and you will see yourself do better mentally as a result.



If cutting makes you fill better you should do it
It sounds like you are depressed maybe a hobby would take your mind of your problems
Maybe little paper dolls could stop you from crying. My little sister cuts all the time, she's pretty good at it she has little paper dolls all over the house.
