I am scared of death.... help ?!

Question: I am scared of death.... help ?
I don't know why i do fear death because i know that we all have to go some time, just some times at night i'm lying in bed trying to get too sleep and then my mind races with thoughts about death, anything to do with it, like my funeral, being cremated or buried, just lying there in a coffin doing nothing for eternity, i know it sounds stupid but it does scare me, everytime i think of it i end up having like a freak out or weird responce to thinking about it, normally results in me shooting up from the lying down position to either sat up or stood up, i'm breathing heavily and my heart is racing, in most severe cases i have literally ran from my bed to downstairs to confront my mum or dad and say i'm scared, i honestly don't know why this happens and the thought of death appears from mostly nowhere or im facing the wall and i begin to think its like a coffin because of me being in a confined space, i have tried everything from listening to music to sleeping in different rooms, i have had one past experience of death but i dont recall because i was at the age of 4-5 an my uncle had passed away with cancer..

I am looking for some answers and i hope you guys can help.

Thank you.

Hi, Its never stupid if its bothering you to this extent and your family and friends will think the same too.

Mental health is hard to understand and obviously very complex and diverse but I just want you to know that you can change this and get over it.

First thing to do is know that because its happened so many times, you will either consciously or unconsciously be getting worked up before you go to bed and your mind and body might come to expect it. So I'm guessing bed time cant be a nice time for you. Remember that sleep and bed should be a time to wind down, relax and recharge.

Something called 'critical thinking' or reflective thinking might be able to help you. This is where you dont analsye the situation or judge yourself for getting worked up. Instead you just say to yourself, where you are, describe the room, describe what you're feeling etc, think outwards and dont think inwards. This is good because sometimes this type of thinking can make you understand just how irrational your phobia is and help make sense critically why you're feeling this way. Also rating your anxiety level on a scale of 1-10 is helpful, objectifying feelings will help you a lot because you're seeing it as seperate - something that can and will obviously change throughout your whole life.

In my experience just saying 'Right, Im feeling a bit anxious. Why is that? Well its because bedtime is near and I'm scared what I'll start thinking about' - might sound simple but it generally works wonders. Its just a trick that can help you through the situation.

Also, counting, 1 to 100 as many times. It bores your brain and hopefully you'll fall asleep quicker, counting sheep is another one, thinking about colours, creating a 'safe place' i.e a beach for example.

If some of these dont work I would advice you to visit the doctors to have a quick chat with them. They can give you either medication and/or therapy to help with your problems. You dont need to suffer unnecessarily. I hope this has helped :)

I used to get scared too. I would imagine what if time flew by so fast and the moment of my death came and what I would experience. I still get scared sometimes but then I remember that I can't spend too much time being scared...and I need to do what makes me happy. I grew out of it btw

i myself have the same problem. You may consult a good doctor about it. i found one good consultant at khoka.in. You may also check it out.

Simply get a job as an undertaker.

Have you ever watched the show I Survived...Beyond & Back? It airs on the Biography Channel. People tell their story's of what they saw/heard after they "died".

When you know God in your life as a born again Christian, you don't need to worry about death, as then you would be looking to get to heaven after you die someday, if you follow God's ways.
So, get God in your life and get some prayers. Knowing God can transform your life. When you know God, your spiritual Father, then pray about your life, God can help you live a better life. As God is love, life is primarily about love and relationships in order to have a rich and full life. Also, you need to know God's Son, Jesus Christ, in your life as your Lord and Savior as Jesus died on the cross as payment for our sins. Having Him with you will give you God's blessing and forgiveness, as you live God's way. We need to know and follow God in this life so we can go to heaven after we die, and so we can get God's help now. Not following God leads to hell, eternal suffering. Instead, there is an important prayer to pray to become a born again Christian. This prayer should be said with faith in God and a sincere heart:
"Dear God, I know that I am a sinful person and I don't want to be like this anymore. I know that Jesus Christ died on the cross as payment for our sins, and I want to accept Jesus Christ into my life as my Lord and Savior forever so I can receive God's forgiveness, guidance, and go to heaven after I die. Thank you, dear God, for your mercy and guidance; in Jesus' name. Amen."
After saying this prayer, you should check out a Christian church like Baptist, Catholic, Lutheran.
Also, get into their Bible study group so you can learn more about God, Jesus, and God's will for your life. The Bible is God's instruction book about how to live a God-honoring life so you can go to heaven after you die. The church can also get you baptized and prayed for. You can pray for yourself daily too. God guide your life.

Well I had the same experience, all you should do is live your life to the fullest and think of when you die you're born again into your favourite animal or another human, life is endless no matter what happens we will all die but then we will all live another day as well. Also look into the present not into the future you will go onto a paranoid stage where you will think everyone wants to kill you but just forget about death and live your life to the fullest

experience

I have gone through that from time to time. In fact, a couple of years ago, I had this feeling for about a week that I was about to die. Truth is, you just have to get over it. I have a very stressful job, so many times I start thinking about things in my office, and my mind starts racing. My approach has been to either think about things I enjoy, or simply thing of a black wall and concentrate on it. Puts me to sleep every time.

Your experiences are just awful and my heart goes out to you. At a basic level you might try sleeping with a bedside light on so that you can open your eyes to reassure yourself when these thoughts come . But you do have a Heavenly Father, you know, who can be reached by prayer. If you don't know about this then join a Christian group ---maybe the Salvation Army, maybe your nearest church if it is of a friendly type--- and find out more. You will never regret it. Meanwhile I will pray for you.

Okay well i can sorta relate to this because its all i used to think about which really affected how my perception of life etc.

But i gotta tell you one thing - nightime is the worst time to think about things. Its probably because there's nothing to take your mind off things and so you just get stuck thinking about things over and over again.

So here's the thing. Yes death is a horrible thing to think about, as we all know that there is no way of really stopping it, just maybe prolonging it through good health, but you just gotta think, OKAY i am gonna die one day, but not today. And just live your life to the full instead of being worried about it, otherwise the worry could make you sick, and worrying all the time makes it so that your not really living at all.

I hope this helps, and try not to think about this kinda thing at nightime, maybe read a book or drink hot chocolate to help you sleep better. And remember, don't feel like your the only one who has ever felt this way, because i know plenty of people that have too.

Hope it all goes well and don't worry, i promise you the feeling will pass.
