Do you Every Abuse Your Prescription Meds?!
Question: Do you Every Abuse Your Prescription Meds?
Answers:
I totally understand how it feels to be dealing with depression (I'm diagnosed myself and have been taking antidepressants for quite a while now), but changing dosages of psychiatric medicine on your own is ALWAYS a bad idea. First of all, if you're taking an SSRI (such as Zoloft, Celexa, Prozac, etc.), which is quite possible as this family of drugs is commonly used to treat both anxiety and depression, temporarily upping your dose will have few positive effects, and many potential side effects. SSRIs, as well as many other types of drugs, build in effect gradually, meaning that a temporary boost in dosage would have little effect. Even if the drugs you're taking do cause an immediate reaction, raising the amount you take can result in overdose, resistance to the drug (i.e. it will become less and less effective for treatment), and even a potential for addiction. There's no shame in talking to your psychiatrist about adjusting, or even changing, your medication, particularly if you're still feeling bad, but using these kinds of drug recklessly can have some pretty serious repercussions.

you might just want to talk to your doctor and have him/her prescribe higher dosages that are still safe for you...
