you can take your clothes in. they will take your phone off you if you take it and they have games consoles there. if there is enough space or they are able to then they will give you your own room if not you will be sharing. but if you can avoid it, do so at all costs. i was in one for a year and it was horrible. you get no freedom or space to just be on your own.
been in a mental health hospital for a year
I have worked on a locked psych unit in a general hospital for 25 years, so I know what is done where I work.
You may have a roommate--or a private room & there are no tvs or phones in the bedrooms.
The idea is that patients are encouraged NOT to isolate to their room. There are public phones usually and one lounge area with a 'community' television. Meals are eaten in a public dining room.
There are groups, and times to meet with the psychiatrist, social worker, etc. You are expected to participate in your treatment--and attend groups.
There are rules--set meal times, bedtime, visiting hours, group times, times to use the phone.
Some have smoking outside or in a separate room--and many (now) are non-smoking.
And--you wear your own clothes--not hospital gowns! But if you are suicidal, anything with cords, strings, belts will be locked up. A strip search is also done on every new patient.
leave any expensive jewelry, credit cards, cash, checkbooks at home--it will all be locked up.
The patients cannot keep any electrical possessions--such as iPods, phones, computers, games, etc. People go there for psychiatric help.

I was allowed my phone, but not my charger, that had to be handed over to the nurses and they would charge it for me. Some people had Nintendos and laptops, etc., again, no chargers. It's good to have supplies of drawing materials and books.
Bear in mind that whatever you take in with you could easily end up getting stolen.
