I'm embarrased to talk about my intrusive thoughts. Can someone help me?!

Question: I'm embarrased to talk about my intrusive thoughts. Can someone help me?
I think I have OCD. I've been experiencing intrusive thoughts and little compulsions great enough to mess with my algebra grade for about 2 to 2 1/2 years. I'm afraid to tell people about the aggressive thoughts that won't go away. I attempted to tell my bestfriend a few weeks ago, but it didn't go well. I was too scared of what she would think of me.

Can anybody give me advice on how to subtly hint at my mom that I think something is wrong? I know she's my mom, but I'm afraid to tell her. To tell anybody. I'm embarrased because I know that these things I'm thinking/doing are irrational and pointless but I can't help doing them. Please help me.
Thanks.

Answers:

dont be scared to tell her:) ask if you could see a consouller for your OCD trust me OCD doesnt mean your a freak a spaz or crazy i kinda have an OCD about getting shampoo out of my hair..lol. if you really are too shy to tell your momma then just say stuff like "oh all of a sudden this certain thing really bothers me...does it mean i have OCD/is it okay" Good luck:)

Catherine... yes I think you are correct...OCD. This would be my plan of attack:

1) I would tell my mom... "I strongly feel I need to see a psychiatrist... I've been experiencing these ever increasing intrusive thoughts where I hurt myself/others over the last two years. It is severely affecting my days and sleep and hurting my grades. I need to see someone right a way. I've tried to control these thoughts on my own, but it is only getting worse. I feel like I'm losing my mind. Please schedule an appointment with a psychiatrist right a way. I've researched it a little and I think I have OCD, which is caused by a brainchemicall imbalance."

2) Now if she doesn't listen to you, I would look up where the mental hospital clinic is in your town and go there (even though you are a minor) and tell them your story. [If you have no way to get there, then call them.] They will contact your mom and call her in for counseling and explain to her what is going on, and get you set up to see a psychiatrist right a way. There are great medications that will help tremendously, and then when the medicines have taken effect they will train you and help you pinpoint and deal in a healthy way your stress areas, and thought processes. Your brain chemistry is low on certain chemicals which help a person deal with stress and intrusive thoughts. You are not crazy in any way. There are millions of Americans with OCD, including those dealing with thoughts of hurting/killing others. In a sense it's the mind being very obsessively fearful that you could do it, which absolutely freaks you out, and causes you to keep thinking about it. You can not fix this without medicine.

Don't delay dear, get help as soon as possible. If you can't tell your mom... them write her a note with the above information and hand it to her to read. Take care sweetheart !
