How is mine sever?

Answers:

It depends on your symptoms. Some people will just feel anxious and are aware of not feeling comfortable but can still do whatever it is that is making them anxious, while some people where it is sever will have panic attacks and find it hard to complete some day to day tasks.

Normal Anxiety:
------------------------
Symptoms: stage fright; test anxiety; worry about kids, finances, work, etc; flight or fight reactions (dangerous situations).

Other considerations: reactive (happens in response to something negative then disappears with resolution of the cause); doesn't affect work, doesn't affect socialising too badly; usually get some relief with therapy; not complicated with somatic symptoms (tension, heart palpitations, perspiration, digestive problems, fatigue); maintains friendships.

Anxiety disorder:
------------------------
Symptoms: excessive worry about vague things; agoraphobia (afraid to leave the house leading to isolation for long periods of time); panic attacks (chronic state of fear).

Other considerations: chronic (symptoms never go away); constant problems with familial, social, and occupational situations; hospitalisation for somatic symptoms or fear of dying with panic; needs medical intervention, therapy is more stressing; can't stand the company of friends and family.

In short, there's no absolute way to determine how bad someone's anxiety is, it's a subjective thing. In my personal experience, it's something that you should be pro-actively seeking treatment for when it's bad, because you can't function. IMHO, if a person isn't going to great lengths to get treatment, then it's safe to assume it's not that bad.

I also suffer from depression too. When I first came down with anxiety after my head injury, I went to my doctor immediately, because I felt very sick.

Experience.

If you worry pretty much all the time, you have sever anxiety.
