What the hell is wrong with me?!

Question: What the hell is wrong with me?
Okay, so I'm 20 years old and haven't had much experience with dating. My first boyfriend was when I was 17 and we broke up when we left for college. After we broke up, I couldn't stop thinking about him. It's like I was obsessed, but I was also trying my hardest NOT to think about him too. This last months and even years afters after we initially broke up, when he was very far removed from my life (we ended on bad terms and basically didn't talk after that). It was only when I started seeing this guy in college, Alex, that it started to go away, but now I'm having the same problem: me and Alex hooked up a few times but never were in an official relationship, and we decided to just be friends. He stop talking to me recently and I heard he was seeing someone else. Since we weren't actually ever dating, this has been easier for me to deal with, and I have been doing a lot of soul-searching in the process. I have found a peace with my past and have grown a lot stronger though it all, but I still can't help myself constantly thinking about it. It's like ruminating thoughts- I DON'T want to be this way but feel as though I can't help it! It's like it controls me. I have an inclination towards depression/anxiety since high school. Please give me yours thoughts on what's going on?! thanks <3

Answers:

When any type of relationship ends, a person goes through a sort of mourning process and grieves. Use this opportunity to heal and give yourself a break. In the meantime, think about the types of guys you chose to date, and what made you unhappy in the relationship. Then look to avoid those same things in the next relationships. Don't be hard on yourself, just learn from the experiences and move on. You deserve better and you will find it, but you need to treat yourself the best. Good luck. :)
