Do I have some kind of separation anxiety disorder?!

Question: Do I have some kind of separation anxiety disorder?
Whenever I leave my boyfriend or he leaves me I cry and feel low and sometimes suicidal, even if I know I'm going to see him the next day. I used to feel sad whenever I had to leave one or another of my parents (they are divorced) but got used to that so it doesn't really affect me now. Equally I have had some sudden separations in my life (ie. my mum's ex left us with no warning after being there for 5 years) which never really got dealt with. It's really getting me down because I want to be able to enjoy my time with my boyfriend without dreading leaving him/him leaving me at the end of the day. What the heck is wrong with me?!

Answers:

It is the separations you have had to deal with in the past which make it hard for you. Separations can be sad and difficult to deal with if you were attached to that person. You are looking at your future in a very negative way which can lead to negative outcomes. Be positive, your boyfriend may have to go away but if he loves you he will come back to you and if he does you will know how much he loves you. He will miss you too so it is hard for him as well. Just because you are going to different Unis that doesnt mean you have to split up. You won't be at Uni forever so if you really want it to work you will both make it work. If you are meant to be you will be, I dont think you should hang onto people because you are scared to let go, it isn't healthy. If someone wants to go they should be free to go and if they want to stay they will. Good luck and relax.

i dont think so
