Why have i got such a bad memory?!

Question: Why have i got such a bad memory?
I am noticing more and more frequently that i am having an increasingly hard time remembering things. I'll turn on the computer wanting to go to a certain website, and then moments later completely forget what i wanted to do. or if i try to remember the name of a song which i heard a day earlier, i might have trouble remembering. Its all just little things, but its starting to worry me.

I am 20 years old, but is it at all possible that i'm developing some kind of memory condition, or is it all just up in my head, so to speak?

Can anyone direct me to somewhere where i might find more information about this?

Answers:

Do you have any major stresses in your life? Or are you really excited about something? Sometimes, if there's something big your thinking about, and is always in your head, it kinda pushes the little thing out, ya know what I mean?

I know that when I have something exciting coming up or something really stressful on my mind, I forget the little things.

Also, if what you're forgetting is something you haven't thought about a lot, it might just be because of that. Or it might be forgotten due to a major event occuring after the thought.

Your memory is in layers. The things most recent are at the top, and are easier to 'lose' or 'forget'. The more you think about something, the deeper it goes in your memory, and the easier you can recall it.

If you think it's more serious that that, try contacting your doctor. These might be symptoms of Alzheimers or dementia , but at your age, I doubt that.

are you consuming any kind of medicine which effects would be to affect your brain?
because I did and I experienced the same thing too. I started feeling that I can't remember a lot of things I usually easily remember after I take some kind of diet pills. After I stopped consuming it, my memory gradually gets better. or maybe it's just in my head.
but eating healthy foods really help too.
and maybe you may want to try focus-exercising. it usually helps me.

you have too much on atm, start relaxation ,cut back (if you can) on your responsibilities ,,,

Ensure adequate sleep, and exercise moderately. Take at least 4 Omega 3 fish oil supplements, or the recommended dose of a high quality of fish oil daily, like Carlsons, or Melrose; (certified free of mercury) it is best if consumed with an antioxidant, such as an orange, or its FRESHLY SQUEEZED juice. If vitamin E is added, it should be certified as being 100% from natural sources, or it may be synthetic: avoid it! Females may benefit by balancing the DHA, & EPA versions of Omega 3 in fish, or krill* oil with ALA flaxseed oil Omega 3, or at least one heaped tablespoonful of ground flaxseed, daily. Vegetarians: Google: "Omega 3; algae; supplies" and use with flaxseed. Vitamin and health food stores are good sources, because they specialise in this area, and have a high turnover, so their products are less likely to be old. Are you on any medication? if so some medications can cause memory loss as a side affect. if you're on medication look at the leaflet and then consult your doctor. Having said that i think you should see your doctor anyway, if it's getting to the point that you know it's not a normal amount of forgetfullness he or she will be able to help you find out what it is. It could just be everyday forgetfulness, if you are depressed, stressed or suffering from anxiety these things can make forgetfulness much more worse than it usually is but doesn't mean it will become dangerous. For information on this i would call NHS direct or visit the site. It is probably the most reliable source on the internet for illnesses. Good luck and hope you feel better soon :)

I agree with the natural approach Jerry recommends but not quite so hardcore. Fish oil should only be taken one a week or every few days, but that would depend on the dosage I suppose. It's high in Vitamin A, I think and I recently heard that it can exacerbate acid reflux.

Simple: Get a B-Complex supp. and 500mg Vitamin C and take 2-3 doses of C daily with 1 B-Complex and also take a calcium/magnesium/zinc. Read up and try to get selenium foods into your diet or take a selenium tablet once a week-another thing you can get TOO much of (Vitamin A and Selenium) so be careful and let your internal sense be your guide. Avoid taking DHEA before speaking with a doctor. It may not be necessary but agree that it is a good supplement in certain cases. I've taken it and it really wired me up but it wasn't as much a memory thing as a coordination, mind-to-muscle,nervous system, revitalization of depressive symptoms type of thing.

Otherwise, eat lots of green salads and mediterranean foodstuffs like olives and garlic and cooked tomatoes. Learn why these foodsare healthy and learn to cook. It may become your new way of life.

You've reached that age where your body is going to give you challenges and you must learn the proper, healthy ways of taking care of yourself and not rely on doctors and their pharmaceutical crutches.
