I feel unwelcome at work sometimes and think people might be talking about me?!

Question: I feel unwelcome at work sometimes and think people might be talking about me?
Ok, I have Depression and Anxiety. I work voluntary once per week.

I have felt that people are talking about me behind my back, that I'm getting less responsibilities and generally less welcome since going back there to volunteer after a gap. I went back about 8 months ago.

Ok, so I hear some gossip sometimes and wonder if it's about me, although it often in about others... but through this I have established that there IS gossip.

I feel that there is an awkward silence sometimes when I'm there, I feel like they've taken my "old position" off me, because previously, before I came back, I had somewhat a position of trust. Now I'm just left with the dud tasks and others (particularly one persons who was there when I used to be too) are chosen ahead of me...

Does this sound like it's a serious problem in the voluntary organisation?
Is it perhaps my condition?

Should I bring it up with management?

What should I do?

Answers:

The problem is that you are associating you diminished responsibilities with the idea that they are displeased. You left and came back so while you were gone your duties went to someone else. People gossip no matter where you go and even spread untrue rumors, but if you work hard and are pleasant to others you will gain their trust regardless of gossip. If you know you have put your all into the work, then ignore all of the gossip. It is best to avoid getting an earful even if it is not about you. Focus on your work, and remember you are working for free because you care and others appreciate this.

Go into the room,.

Leave your phone in there on REcord, then leave the room - see if they're talking about you.

Simple
