Please help me, what should i do?!

Question: Please help me, what should i do?
i know i shouldn't cut because "its bad" and all that jazz, but i really want to and i have a knife on me

ive been getting professional help, but talking out my issues doesn't really seem to help (i guess partially because im pretty much always so anxious, and sometimes scared when talking with my therapist and also maybe because ive never been much of a social person, preferring to keep to myself before i even started having mental problems like depression and anxiety and started cutting)

and i also started taking antidepressants about 2 weeks ago and i don't know how well i should expect them to work (so far they've just made me feel drowsy, so no matter how much sleep i get it never seems like enough, and most of the time i settle on 12 hours of sleep before i choose to get up and out of bed)

Answers:

if the antidepressants don't have any more effect within the next week or so, i'd suggest going to your doctor and getting them to change you to a different type. some cause drowsiness but that's not a good thing so talk to your doc.

as for the cutting, please try and stop sooner rather than late. it can become very addictive as you may already know. the best thing to do is get rid of the knife and any other sharp things you could use to hurt yourself, then do something productive like cooking/writing/cleaning, or going for a walk.

stress and anxiety are very common so don't think you're alone or abnormal. you must talk to your therapist about it though, so they can treat you for it.

hope that helped.

The world is going crazy, the fact that you are unhappy just shows that you have a good head on your shoulders: Use it. Go on an adventure, do something random, talk to strangers, turn off your t.v., get out of your house. Create something and share it with others. The people worth knowing these days are going through exactly what is happening to you, get to know them and have fun.

Take it from me, (a former cutter) don't start. It's really hard to stop and there are other ways. You don't want to have to hide the cuts, have the marks on your skin.
Try alternatives, listening to music you like really loud, screaming, etc.
I really hopes this stops you. And if you ever need to talk, feel free to send me an email. <3

You`re just stressed out and need to take a long break, try thinking about the good things about yourself or you could listen to some music...if your problem is getting worse, I`d talk to a parent or teacher or someone you can trust. Hope you feel better.

Give the meds a chance to work and give the doctor time to find the right dose for u.In time u will start feeling better and open up more and more with ur therapist.

The pills will start working in one month. Wait

Depression is an actual chemical imbalance in the brain, and antidepressants help even out that imbalance, but I'm sure you know this. Sometimes, more often than not, depression is misdiagnosed and that may be why the pills arent helping. There is no actual medication specifically made for anxiety, so maybe that's what you have instead of depression.

Anxiety is hard to rid of, cutting makes it go away and I get that. I personally use marijuana to rid of my anxiety, I see it as healthier than cutting.
Best thing to do is to pretend like cutting doesnt exist, pretend you've never done it, make it IMPOSSIBLE to be an option, then you will find other things, hopefully healthier things, to numb the pain.

Please don't cut yourself - it may help in the short term, but will leave you very badly scarred. Please make an urgent appointment to see your gp and really open up. After all how can the doctor help you if you're not totally honest?

Don't stop taking the anti depressants - 2 weeks is a very short time to have been taking them, and not long enough for them to build up to the correct therapeutic level in your bloodstream. This is why you're experiencing side effects such as drowsiness. If you can, ask if you can have some counselling, as it will be very effective in combination with the medication. The medication can take up to 12 weeks to work without causing side effects.

Hope you feel better soon!!!!!
