What is a psych ward like?!

Question: What is a psych ward like?
If I went there b/c I'm suicidal how long would I stay and what will happen. What is it like

Answers:

you would stay there for at least 72 hours, minimum. they take your shoelaces and your hoody strings. you would get to see a family member for maybe 45 mins a day. trust me it is NOT FUN.

i have been in the psych ward 4 times. (i'm 30) and each time i was there for at least a week, and once in there for two weeks. 3 times for suicide attempts, and once for psychosis.

you will have to go to an e.r. first. they will run tests and ask you questions to determine how much of a threat you are to yourself and others. you'll have to wait for them to find you a bed in a psych ward if there is not one there.

when you do get to the psych ward, your demeanor and location on the ward will be checked every 15 mins around the clock.

if you are feeling suicidal, get help NOW, find a therapist and psychiatrist if you don't already have one, before it turns into a medical emergency.

i wish you the best of luck

My cousin and a few of my friends have gone there. They say its kind of like prison. But it depends on where your going. Some have pools, some have jungle gyms, some have good food, some have bad. You live in a small room and its very boring, sometimes you can bring your cell phone or computer and sometimes you cant. They monitor every thing so you're very safe. They check up on you every fifteen minutes. If you're good you get to leave early. Phych wards arent as bad as they are in movies. Actually in several cases, the workers are very nice. Just make sure that you look at reviews and ask around what the ward is like. What I mean is. Dont just pick one.. Research it. Even see if you can visit it. It wont help you much if the ward isnt well.
I think the psych ward is nice.. Just dont misbehave and its just like a vacation. I think its nice to know your in a place where they care about you.

Friends and Family members.

They are similar to any regular hospital wards but there are a lot of messed up people there that would scare you. The doctor would give you a bunch of medications for depression and psychotic behavior. They would probably keep you there for a week maybe a little less. Don't go there it is a terrible place and future employers have the right to view your medical records and when they see that they probably wont hire you.

They are nothing like one one flew over the cuckoo nest, if you're worried. They are pretty much like regular hospitals.
