Question: What is a good, fast way to get over depression without taking an antidepressant?

Exercise and diet of course BUT

You are asking for advice that doesn't make a lot of sense. Depression is an organic illness that originates in the brain chemistry. There are NO over the counter drugs or medications that can effectively treat this illness. Depression can be a fatal disease (suicide) if not treated appropriately.

there is only one way to get over depression ,that is to live in present, not in past or future. The whole problem of human life is that they live in past or future ,and because they always think about past or future they ruin there present movement. One cannot get depressed in deep sleep because there is no remembrance of past ,and no thought of future,but you cannot say that the persons consciousness does not exist at that time, it does exist because without is you cannot make a statement like" yesterday i did not saw any dream"because someone must be there to know that it happned or not, as you know it ,thus it implies that your consciousness was there,but it was existing without ego. Ego is the main cause of all the problems in the world,one must accept the changes which are coming in in ones life. If you accept the changes without any resistance,you will see that there will be no depression at all. But as long as you satisfy your ego by resisting changes in your life you will always get depressed. Ego is afraid of changes in life thus it always tries to resist changes. It does not mean that you should not expect anything in life, you should expect every thing in this world,but your happiness does not have to be dependent upon the end result of the expectation, this not a easy task because we have lived all our life in with principles, but you should take it as a excercise for one day and see the result, just dont expect any thing from anyone for one day,just try to do it then you will see the result how this depression goes away..............and you should also read the books of swami krishnananda it will help you to a great deal......

Change your mind, and do something you love..
Do sports, think about yourself and smile...

But seriously, might be hard to get up and move when your depressed, but the best thing to do is move.. And get out of house..

@ hippie child : YEAH, it does, but then you get fat and zits, and you have to start allllll over, by doing sports and feeling better ;)



If your depression is mild, then exercising for 45 minutes a day will help top lift your mood. Certain foods also help to boost mood, such as brazil nuts and fish with omega-3 fatty acids including salmon and halibut.

I don't know if there's a fast way. I know if I hit the lottery then that would cure mine but I can't speak for everybody else



Try taking St. John's Wort or B-Complex vitamins - I've been taking B-Complex vitamins for my mood swings.. seems to help.
