thinking of trying anti-anxiety medication, what can I expect from them?!

Question: Thinking of trying anti-anxiety medication, what can I expect from them?
So, I"ve been going through a bit of a crisis right now and my doctor offered me some anti-anxiety medication to ease my stress levels. When she first offered me a prescription I turned them down because the idea kind of freaks me out a little. I am now having second thoughts about them and am considering aking for them. Can someone please tell me what I can expect from them? If i do take them, will they turn me into zombie-like-state?

Answers:

i take sertraline, which is an anxiety/depression tablet, when i stopped taking them before i went back to my original state, and i hated it so i dont mind being on them. your better off trying them and no they wont turn you zombie like, all they do is stop panic attacks and many of your symptoms :) HAPPY PILLS.

personal experience

there are many medications that treat anxiety. please be a little more specific

thank you for clarifying. i have never heard of zantax. zoloft is very effective at managing anxiety.

i don't think you have any cause for concern about medication causing you to act like a zombie, there are some anti-psychotics that could produce something like that at very high doses, but they are not used for anxiety.

there is a class of medications used for anxiety that have the potential to cause addiction when not used as directed, but as they are a controlled substance they may only be prescribed for acute conditions, not for anything like a stress reducer though.

i am curious, though, as to what would motivate you to seek medical treatment but then refuse the treatment offered.

well good luck with your crisis.

Everyone reacts to medications differantly. I have been on several and they helped a great deal especially on a short term basis. Anti anxiety medications are very different then several of the other meds prescribed for mental conditions. Be sure to ask the doctor if the medication he is prescribing is an anti-psychotic you do not need these for anxiety and they are more likely to produce the unwanted effects you stated.
