Is hypnotherapy affective?!

Question: Is hypnotherapy affective?
I have generalized anxiety disorder which stops me from doing every day things because I'm scared of having a panic attack. I was just wondering what peoples thoughts were on this and if any one has had success. Thank you.

I do think in some cases Hypnotherapy can help. For some people, the root cause of their anxiety can lie in a past experience or trauma. The mind to protect itself, pushes the memory of these events deep into our subconscious. Hypnotherapy can be a very useful tool, in bringing these memories back to the surface. But its important that it is done carefully, in the hands of a proffessional who has had years of experience in this field. I would also recommend using relaxation techniques and cd's. If you decide to try hypnotherapy, I would advise you, to only go to someone who has good qualifications and comes recommended by your GP.

Whether, it's weight loss, stopping smoking or anxiety, in most cases hypnotherapy is found to work well. You need to put in the effort too, you can't take away %100 of the anxiety just through hypnotherapy, you need to work towards that goal yourself also.

I believe in order to be successful, the person has to be open to it, and believe it will work. It's really just the power of suggestion. People who don't believe it will actually work, usually don't get anything out of it.

Hypnotherapy has so many variables. I have NEVER heard of it being effective with regard to panic attacks. Talk therapy helps. That is why they have group therapy.
