Ex Fiancee wants to move miles away with our son. What do i do?!

Question: Ex Fiancee wants to move miles away with our son. What do i do?
I am 33 and was with my fiancee for 8yrs, engaged for 2 of them, We also have a 2yo son, She is 26 and we were really happy together but just before she became pregnant things between us had gone through destruction, turmoil, heated fights, and plenty of hurt & heartache so we agreed that although we love each other we just don't seem to be able to be together & that its best for our son to have a healthy life without argument between his parents, We never saw eye to eye, I am now engaged to marry my new fiancee next February & my ex is now in a relationship with a touring musician and wants to move to LA to live with him and wants to bring our son. We mostly only talk when it comes to our son & i will always love her and want her to be as happy as i now am but it will kill me if my son is so far away from me. Any advice?

Answers:

the best interest of the child is to have both parents in his/her life. So I would say that if I were you...I wouldnt let her. What is the current custody arrangement? if there is not want I would go now and file for joint custody-this would limit her moving more than 50 away with out your consent. Its pretty standard and may be in your state. Dont worry about her and if she is happy and deserves it, that is nice but what you need to do is think of best interest of child. Always first.

Move to LA. Your son needs you. And stop fighting in front of him. You and your ex need to act like mature adults and keep your issues to yourself, not fight in front of your son or talk bad about each other to him.

The other option is to try to get sole custody of him. If she is an unfit mother, have him taken from her. Not that it's easy to do, since the courts almost always side with the mother. If she's not an unfit mother, then you'd better start packing!
