why are there so many suicidal questions here?!

Question: Why are there so many suicidal questions here?
the first few i've read.. i've actually tried to help.. but now im beginning to think that maybe its just for attention? i dont know.. do you guys actually think that its real and these people really think about committing suicide? cause i didnt realize that it was such a huge issue with THAT many people...

Answers:

I used to take the time answering people who say that they are suicidal but then I decided that if they are and they really want help they know where to find it (not on Y/A) so I stopped answering the questions.

I suspect that some of them are just looking for attention but many suicidal people do that so I believe that they should all be taken seriously. If I continued to answer them I would simply refer them to a suicide hotline, a school counselor or a therapist/psychiatrist. And that is why I don't answer them anymore; they want more than a referral.

I don't get it either. People are obviously goign to say no. I mean, I don't mean to be rude but if someone genuinly was considering commiting suicide they would have done it without asking peoples opinions and writting about it on the internet. I've had a friend that commited suicide and aswell as my coison. Neither of which gave any warning and asked peoples opinions on it. I've suffered from depression for a few years and before talking to anyone about it, I considered it also, Stupid but I did. I didn't go on the internet and ask for peple opinions. I think it's just for attention and if not they may just feel the need to tell someone, but can't tell anyone so they write on the internet to strangers. Meh.

This is just my opinion in it.

The fact that someone is suggesting or contemplating suicide, whether for attention or not, is troublesome. I think many are reaching out for help, not really wanting to commit the act, but feeling so desperate to be heard that calling on that medium seems their only hope.

At any rate, whomever is asking needs to be heard.

I've been suicidal before, although i did not seek help via yahoo, I know how awfully tough it is to even function. I think its amazing that with all the trolls about, people are still brave enough to show how they really feel. I love that through this website we can be some sort of comfort for these people and hopefully encourage then to seek proffesional help. I know how it feels to be beyond lonely, its horrible.

Alot of people are hurting and really are at a loss as to where to turn. Some just need to hear that they are not alone, and that they'll be okay. Some need the reassurance--or the first steps to take to find help.
The trolls are the angry posts that berate the reader, curses them and tells them what NOT to say or write. Such as 'don't tell menot to do it--it's too late...", etc. They seem to NOT want help--they want to "stir the pot' and get people upset.

25 yrs psychiatric care

Well I'm not a part of the suicide questions, but I do have a few depression ones. I know my life could be worse, but it's still pretty **** at the moment. I'm not just a 12 year old attention whore, I'm genuinely depressed and I'm seeing a school guidance counsellor about it on Friday. But it does annoy me when people say that just to get attention. I'm actually looking for help

A lot of times I think it's just trolls looking to get a rise out of people.
But there are also many genuine people on here who are lost and confused and lonely and they really just want to someone to talk to. Are they really going to kill themselves? Probably not. Are they actually depressed? It's hard to tell. Are they sad and looking for help? Definitely. Where better to have someone seem like they care about you than on an advice website.

I know what you mean.
It depends for me how I answer them (I usually try and help too) but some of them are so blatantly just crying for attention that I don't bother.

I judge by how it's written, spelling, grammar, words etc.
If it's most-likely written by a 12 year old compulsive liar-attention whore, I ignore!

Eh. I tend to believe some do it for the attention and some don't.. Trouble is, you can't tell them apart.

Young people are worried to death and can not get to sleep and thinks they are hopeless. SO we need to help them out here on this wonderful site here.

Attention??? what kind of attention r u talking about...suicide is the first thing that comes to the mind of a depressed person...

Because all the saddos turn to the internet.

hard to come to a conclusion
