Do all sexually abused children go on to have a personality disorder? High funct!

Question: Do all sexually abused children go on to have a personality disorder? High functioning or otherwise?
It's something I've wondered for a while, I was abused as a child and although growing up (to the age of about 17) I would definitely have fit the criteria for BDP, I feel like I'm much closer to "normal" thinking and behaving.

I think all teenagers would fit the criteria at some point in their lives though, especially if they've been through a rough time. I guess that's why teenagers aren't diagnosed.

I know I have some trust and abandonment issues, but no longer to the point that they damage my personal relationships.

So, my question is; Can a person be abused as a child and not develop disordered thinking and behaviour?

Answers:

Absolutely. Some develop mental disorders and some do not.
Being in the field for over 2 decades I have counseled many people who have been abused. Abuse affects people, and some are affected moreso than others.
Some 'may' even grow up to become abusers, and many, many do not!
And many foremerly abused individuals go into the healthcare field too.

25 yrs psychiatric healthcare

Yes that may effect it, But not all abused children will.
I was abused by my older sister when i was a little boy, i dont have any sort of personality disorder but i do find it incredibly hard to trust women and it's really hard getting close to my girlfriend and she finds this frustrating also.
It all depends on the situation and the person, But there is nothing that ALL abused children will have, ieveryone is different

Not every abused child will. Although it may effect there social skills and so on. Any child going through a traumatic time will have long term effects whether it be through severe bullying or being abused or neglected and so on.

abused children behave like schizophrenic

I was sexually abused as a child, as was my husband, we do not have personality disorders. One in 5 boys and 1 in 3 girls will be violated as children. If every abused child went nuts because of it, 25% of all people would be crazy.

If you think counseling would help you, get it.

The biggest issue I had with effects of abuse was not really understanding the appropriate place and expression of sexuality, and becoming a bit promiscuous. It took me until I was in my twenties to gain an awareness that I don't have to perform for other people's pleasure at the expense of my dignity.
