Would you consider me mentally ill after this?!

Question: Would you consider me mentally ill after this?
Okay. I'm a 13 year old girl. And my story is, I have bulimia. But I don't consider it to be too bad. Like, what's so bad about sticking down a finger down your throat and purging to prevent the weight gain. Or to actually promote weight loss with just a 30 minute purge. Something in me says like "You NEED help, this isn't right" but something in me still says "what's the big deal" I've been purging 3 days in a row now. I started about 6 months ago. So would you consider me mentally ill?

Answers:

Purging is a BIG deal!
The stomach acid will erode your teeth and make them rot.
You risk chronic stomach and throat pain.
Your body does not get the nutrients it needs, which will make you sick.
(And numerous other side effects like depression, infertility, which I am not qualified to explain.)
You could literally die from this!

Please, honey, tell you parents and get help.

yes. Bulimia is a mental illness.

you need to go and see someone about this -it is not normal behaviour. Bulimia is often not about food - it's about control over your life. Has something happened to trigger this fixation.

if it carries on you could die. I'm not kidding. being too thin will cause your vital organs to stop working, your heart will start wasting away (your body will break it down to use it's nutrients) the risk of heart failure is massive.

Bulimia is a very selfish illness - all you care about is food, and your control, you don't see what it's doing to your family and friends.

go and get some help

Hi, No i wouldn't consider you mentally ill. You still have a part that says, 'you need help and this isn't right...' that goes to show that you aren't mentally ill. But yes I would definitely say you to get help.
At 13 you are growing, if you want to loose weight how abut doing some sports, or talking to your parents about following a healthier diet.. there are many ways to loose weight.
Please do talk to somebody elder to you, whom you trust about your bulimia. You are not mentally ill, you just need a little guidance on healthier ways of managing your weight.
You are so young, your body is still growing, if you keep this up... you will never get the boobs you want ;) don't torcher your body and yourself.
Enjoy your teens, and stay healthy.

I heard that to 'qualify' as bulimic, it means you have been purging for four months at least 3 times a week. Bulimia is a serious mental illness, and it IS a big deal that you have been doing this to yourself. A big deal because you are harming yourself. You aren't showing people how you feel with words or facial expressions. You are doing it by purging. And that is a big deal.
When I was purging, I felt the same way that you do - "It's not a big deal, I'm fine". But please, I urge you to get help and tell someone. You'll feel so much better once you've recovered!
Message me if you need anything else. I care. ?

You are in need of a psychiatrist's care. This is not a normal way of life. In fact, even though you do not think it is, you are causing your body to stress out (the organs) and this could very well lead to a complete organ shut down (heart failure), kidney failure, etc). Accept the fact that you are at this time suffering from an eating disorder which, yes, would be considered a mental disorder requiring professional help at this time. The longer you wait, the more severe of a situation may exist. The longer you wait, the more difficult it will be to stop.

I encourage you to see your doctor and ask him/her about this - I'm a little bit concerned. It's not that you're broken, maybe just that you need to get a check-up and make sure everything's going ok. There's nothing wrong with going to see a psychologist to make sure that you stay healthy!

I wouldn't say mentally I'll, but I think you should stop it, you probably got the idea from tv and/or movies. People that suffer from 'anorexia' do this a lot. just stop before it gets out of hand and if you cant stop by yourself, get some help.

yes you are mentally ill. talk to a doctor or at the very least your parents about it. there are waaaaayy better ways to lose weight... for example, in the time it took you to puke, clean it up, and brush your teeth, you could have gone running.

you might not be mentally ill, but you should tell someone about what youre doing. Even if it is "no big deal" youll probably feel less worried after telling someone and talking about it.

Yes, bulimia is a real mental illness. You also provided evidence of trying to convince yourself it is all right, when it's not.

Not ill but weak. Weak enough to not see the truth and give in to nonsense of society. A treachery to yourself.

Gastroparesis or delayed emptying
Constipation
Infertility
Enlarged glands in the neck, under the jaw line
Peptic ulcers
Calluses or scars on back of hands due to repeated trauma from incisors[9][10]

Perimolysis, or the erosion of tooth enamel[11]
Swollen salivary glands[11][12]
As with many psychiatric illnesses, delusions can occur with other signs and symptoms leaving the person with a false belief that is not ordinarily accepted by others.[13]

The person may also suffer physical complications such as tetany, epileptic seizures, cardiac arrhythmias and muscle weakness.(ICD-10)[citation needed].

People with bulimia nervosa may also exercise to a point that excludes other activities [13]"
