Can a psychiatrist force you to go to a hospital?!

Question: Can a psychiatrist force you to go to a hospital?
I attempted suicide on Tuesday by overdosing on benadryl and tylenol 4 and then trying (rather unsuccessfully) to slit my wrists, although I can't even remember doing that. I got sick and slept for a very long time, but haven't noticed any serious physical problems. I'm still somewhat depressed, but no longer suicidal. I want to be honest with my doctor and family and tell them what happened, but I don't want to go to a psychiatric hospital. They're too expensive and I have work and class that I can't miss. Since I'm 19, can I refuse to go, or can they make me go anyway because I tried to kill myself? Also, if you can think of some sort of alternative to a hospital, I'd really appreciate it.

Answers:

First you must be completely honest with your Dr. and family about how you are feeling. To answer your question about being forced into an hospital, Normally, the way it works is the Dr. will not force you into a hospital unless right at that time at that moment you are telling them you are going to kill yourself. But to be completely honest with you going to a hospital should not be your biggest concern, your biggest concern should be getting the help you need to navigate through life without trying to kill yourself. You need to see a therapist who will help you develop coping skills and really when you have a great therapist it is so therapeutic to be able to put all your "ugly" out there. Remember something, Our secrets keep us sick. You may also want to get an appt with a psychiatrist who can prescribe medications that can be helpful if needed. It is a good idea for your therapist and psychiatrist to communicate with each other. This will help you get much better care and help pin point exactly what your diagnosis are and what is the best course of treatment for you. Because your therapist, a good one, will have a much better insight, because you will be talking alot more to a therapist than psychiatrist. Sometimes it takes a little bit of time to get into seeing a therapist and or which I think you need to see both, so if you are not in treatment with a Dr. right now talk to your primary care Dr. about your feelings, if needed they can prescribe something short term while you wait to get into see your experts. It is extremely important that you are completely upfront about everything with your Dr. specifically they need to know about the suicide attempt. You can do this. BE honest. Talk with your family calmly and honestly. You need to get your corner full of people who are seeing and thinking clearly, when you are not. Everything will be fine!

Depends on whether they think you are at imminent risk of harming yourself or someone else. Law varies by state but that is the law in Florida.

They can make you go wherever they want, for as long as they want. Happened to me last year. And I am 27. Just have to deal with it. Sorry!

its illegal. the cops can put you in a psyche hospital or jail

They can trick you into going without a hearing. Call the FBI if that happens.

Psychiatrists claim that a person needs a drug to combat their chemical imbalance in the brain which is causing a persons mental disorder. However, the concept that a brain-based, chemical imbalance underlies mental illness is false. It has been thoroughly discredited by researchers and there is no test for imbalances..-Quakery exposed. Please dont waste your time with labels. Disorders dont exist in a biological way, and there is not any test to date that shows it. Psychiatry is conjecture and uses no science whatsoever.

Divorce, father gone, abuse, ignoring can make children grow up with all types of so called "Mental Problems" or turn them into abusers. They are hurt and pass it on. There are many secular docs out there who admit abuse causes false sickness-OCD, BP, Depression, Cutting etc.

"They vote on disorders and then they become diseases" " Its total fraud" -- Dr. Fred Baughman Neurologist

People tear you down to build themselves up- Think about this for awhile. Words are not said to help you at all. Its only a trick to make abusers/parents feel good. This goes for people at school as well.

I can give you counseling, call cps for you, and also give you numbers for help.

Jesus name is needed for healing with forgiveness.

God wants you to know truth, forgive, and get away from them. Read many many sites under "emotional abuse" and "dealing with bullies".
