Stopping is possible, mate. I've been/am still slightly in a situation very similar to yours. As a cutter myself I had so many struggles everyday with the choices I made and I still struggle with the consequences of those choices.

Selfharm is an addiction just like smoking drinking or anything else and in my eyes should be treated just as carefully. And like any addiction quitting is an option. Just 3 days ago I made 6 months self harm free and am on my way to recovory. I am part of a forum that has been amazingly helpful for me. And you are on the right track. Professional help and medication are two huge steps on your way to recovory and you have my respect and admiration for taking them.

Antidepressants do take a while to kick in however but anytime from now on their affects will begin to become more obvious. I will leave the link to the forum in the sources if you would like to drop in and visit.

Be kind to yourself.

I have 10 years worth of scars and let me say now it wasn't worth it...it wasn't ever worth it! It truly didn't help, and now they are a daily reminder of my stupidity and rashness. Its hard to resist the temptation to cut, but really its not up to anyone else to talk you out of it- its all up to you. Can you find or create something in your life worthwhile enough to justify not cutting? Whether its spiritual belief, service to others or your own future that keeps you from doing it again it doesn't matter. Find something, put a smile on someone elses face and realize depression is very beatable. It won't be a bump free ride, but hopefully you realize that you Can get over each bump. After all, why should some awful state of mind like depression get to have any say in your overall happiness. So, don't wait around for someone to talk you out of it, that's giving depression a permenant foothold in your life. As for your meds, give it a full month, if they don't work, then ask the doctor for a change in either dose or meds.
