Omg, was this sleep paralysis?!

Question: Omg, was this sleep paralysis?
Ok I am 13, and a few months ago I was laying in my bed. I don't know if it was real or fake, or weather I was asleep or not. I just remember seeing something at the side of my bed, like a just remember thinking "OMG, ghost!" and then it started to like push down on my stomach or something, about 3 times, and I think this is where it turned into real life. I rolled over on my side clenching my stomach, thinking I was gonna die. I had my phone RIGHT there, and I seriously was about to call me dad who wad upstairs, asleep, to get his butt down to me. I was scrared stiff and I didn't feel pain or anything, I was just scared stiff. I didn't turn my back to the side I thought to see the ghost ONCE that night. I didn't get any sleep, I just layed there. Ever since I have to sleep with my lights on and my TV on. Like seriously it's giving me the chills just typing this. I DON'T want it to ever happen again. There has never been any signs of haunting in my house, and nobody lived there before us that has died. Please tell me if that was sleep paralysis and what I should do. I am still scared to go to bed to this day so please help. Thanks.

It was totally sleep paralysis.

It can be really horrifying! The pressure on the chest is (oddly) very common, as well as auditory and visual hallucinations. I have had them too.

To stop this from happening try not to sleep on your back; sleep on your side or on your stomach. Also, don't eat any overly spicy or sugary foods before bed. It can be triggered by stress so try to relax.

personal experience.

Yes its sleep paralysis, I am guessing you couldn't get out of bed or yell, but could roll your body and move your head? Anyway, if you could move your body like running to the out your room, then its definitely a ghost or your imagination.

Sounds like Night Terrors to me. Especially you're at young age. Have you been watching a lot of horror movies?
And the stomach thing sounds serious. Talk with your parent about it.

Once was your age. :)

Sleep paralysis is where you can't move at all.

Hurting people/parents hurt others. They just want the reaction so they can get high feel good from it. The words are not true. Abusers use tricky words. You have to look at the agenda and not just the words alone to see the abuse sometimes. Look for what's right. Abuse is anything that's not uplifting, so forget what truth is being used right then. Verbal/Abuse is just one of the things that can bring the demonic which causes so called "Mental Problems".

According to 2 Corinthians 11:14-15, demons masquerade as “angels of light” and as “servants of righteousness.” Appearing as a “ghost”. They are destructive and deceptive. They cause confusion and affect the mind. They also cause plain harassment and emotional torment such as so called Schizophrenia.- BP Depression, weird ideas.

Turns out psychiatry is not based on science. Its just a theory and a guess. There is no medical background to it at all. Psychiatrists do not draw blood to determine the presence of a biochemical imbalance in patients. They merely observe and announce the existence of imbalances. They just desire to believe without science. --Quackery

What a wonderfully appropriate question for me to come across today. In my college's psych class this morning, this was exactly what we were discussing.

It wasn't sleep *paralysis* exactly, though that probably played a part in the feeling of you not being able to move. What you were experiencing the onset of Stage 4 of sleep. It's the part within a few hours of going to bed (can be experienced all throughout the night, as the stages are constantly going back and forth between each other). Stage 4 is when you are deep, deep asleep. However, sometimes freaky and disturbing things can happen before you reach it.

Hypnagogia (the thing that you were experiencing) is a mental phenomena that occurs during this "threshold consciousness" phase (between stages of sleep) and includes lucid dreaming, hallucinations, out of body experiences and sleep paralysis. People can see things that aren't there, hear things and feel things (these 3 things are very, VERY common), and some people can even have hallucinations of smells and tastes.

It's kind of like when your body jerks itself awake when you dream that you're falling. As you go into a deeper sleep, your mind and your body are not always working at the same speed. As your body relaxes, your brain is very much at work, analyzing and processing thoughts, fears, memories, emotions, etc. It's actually quite amazing how your brain can make these kind of full-body hallucinations so vividly.

I could drone on and on, but I'll just finish with what you experienced was NORMAL. Though, yeah, it was totally frightening. It may happen again, but at least now you'll know what it is so you won't be as scared. If it starts happening very often, you may want to see a sleep specialist... though I doubt you'll have too much of a problem.

I wish you luck, I suppose, and happy dreams from this point on! Good night! :)

I've had these kinds of experiences when I was younger, psych class, and... I looked over this Wikipedia page, it looks legit. Maybe it can help you out. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypnagogia#…
