high dosage of Seroquel for Schizophrenia treatment. How safe is it?!

Question: High dosage of Seroquel for Schizophrenia treatment. How safe is it?
Hi,my sister is 18 years old and she was diagnosed with Schizophrenia. On her discharge from hospital her doctor prescribed her 1200mg(600-2times/day) of Lithium carbonate and 1200mg.(400mg-3times/day) of Seroquel. She used to get lower dosage but it din't help so it looks like they decided to increase it.I'm wondering how safe it is?Will this effect her internal organs and overall health after taking it for years.I know I should trust a doctor but they also make mistakes and all medications have side effects.Do you have any experiences with this?I'm just so worried for my sister.Every time I think about it I want to cry.

Answers:

pretty much all psychotropic drugs are not very good for your physical health because there are alot of possible side effects, but they are getting better and their pretty much isnt much else you can do to calm the symptoms of schizophrenia and other mental disorders. Lithium is an older medication it is been around for a long time. I took Seroquel before but not nearly that high of a dose. it didnt work well for me and i think you should know that there are class action lawsuits against the company that made seroquel because of some of the side effects that it has caused in many people but doctors will still prescribe it if they feel the benefits outweigh the risk. i know from personal experience that both drugs will make you tired all the time especially in such high doses but you adjust to that a little over time. they can also cause weight gain. What it comes down to really is the doctor because different doctors like using different drugs and it can be difficult to get them to work with the patient because well, they are the doctor and they feel they know best. if you want to get specifics on the drugs look them up online at the manufacturers website and it will give you a list of possible side effects and recommended dosages.

that's an extremely high dose and I wouldn't surprised if she spends most of her time sleeping. Anyway, Seroquel is harmless and she should be fine.
