l get what you mean. the human nature is really cruel worst part is we have the will to not treat different people bad but a lot do it anyway, this makes me sick too, especially religious people, ugh there is no way a "god" can create such a disgusting species called humans, that defeats the meaning of the term god. l dont believe in such a thing anyway, dont kill yourself because of nasty people in this world, this world needs more people like you, a good mind would go to waste, keep up your creative mind and spread goodness as much as you can, l feel like killing people too, l get discriminated for my looks people all my life have treated me bad because of what l look like, l was ridiculed by so many for my looks, its amazing how mean and viscous people can be just because of a face and many other things. humans will never change, sadly keep your intelligence and try and forgot about the nasty things on earth try moving to a peaceful place with not so many people, it will take away the negativity when ur not around them often, and just resting with nature,

Just learn to accept it. Stupid people will never disappear. Just speak your mind whenever you feel it's necessary. Even ignorant homophobic christians may start to understand your feelings.

I'm also an atheist. I live in the Midwest. (bible belt) I'm also an artist so I guess I fit the "creative different" bill.

I don't think its fair to say most people are ignorant or have a prejudice against people with differences. I don't see that. Maybe on TV and the news, but not in the real world. There are art classes in nearly every college in America. There are around 3-12 MILLION atheists in the US. There are plenty of "creative different people" that aren't bashed, or pressured. I'm sorry that you don't know any personally but you can't make sweeping statements that aren't based on reality to get sympathy on Yahoo answers... I'm sorry but thats a tad pathetic.

Obviously protesting at someone's funeral is disrespectful. I think a minority of extremists feels that they must do that. But there's a minority of extremists on every side. Look at Peta... taking a good cause to a very bad level. I know many Christians that are very good, accepting people and can defend their reasons for believing in god, in a very intelligent and respectful way. I know many atheists that can do that too. Don't stereotype people based on religion.

I don't agree with others pushing their opinions on me, but I don't feel the need to tell them to **** off either. I listen to them because maybe I can learn something from them. It doesn't matter what religion you are, you can still learn something about life by listening to others. I feel like its more important that I respect them for what they believe than tell them they're wrong. If they are pushing their opinions on me, I just shrug it off. I don't get into a ridiculous argument or call them ignorant. I definitely wouldn't kill them or myself. But then again, I'm not 14.

I might be an atheist but I don't understand how other athiests can talk about other religions like they're **** and then act offended and hurt when people bash them IN THE EXACT SAME WAY. WTF. Doesn't "I feel like killing the stupid ignorant Christians" sound exactly the same as "I'm glad that Athiest died, they're going to hell!" ? I don't get it.

Are you talking about Westboro baptist church? If so I know exactly what you mean. They are apparently "Expressing their 1st amendment rights" I would love to meet them and express my second amendment rights, in person. Anyway they mostly protest funerals of soldiers. Their reason is that god is punishing America for being so tolerant of homosexuals. They go to these funerals and hold up sighns that say "Thank god for dead soldiers" and "God hates fags" they also disrespect the flag by dragging it around on the ground.
But to answer your question, people are gonna try and get at you through religion because as deluded as they may be. They really truly beleive their S*** and they think your a heretic. Or whatever. Your just gonna have to have a thicker skin about it and shut them down quick next time they come at you.

I really like your way of thinking and i definitely agree, all except for the part of killing yourself. You just have to associate with the people that feel the same way which is more than you think. And yes pretty much everyone is expected to be Christian these days, unfortunately. I am one myself but I would never shove it down someone's throat and most certainly not be so ignorant as to thinking homosexuality is wrong. Maybe that makes me a bad Christian, but oh well. I, for one, appreciate the sane people in this world like you who have a truly clear view on the world and it would be a shame if you killed yourself because, quite honestly, even if it doesn't seem like it, it's people like us who can really make a difference by speaking out and being different.
