Looking away, what can this be?!

Question: Looking away, what can this be?
This student in my class gives very little eye contact. She talks to me sometimes about the homework or the work but never actually looks at me she looks away, even though shes listening and when she answers she never looks, always looking somewhere else. Its the same with all her other classes. Even when someone is talking shes always looking away. Please tell me why this is???

Answers:

I think it is because she is very shy. I believe this because i am extremely shy & i have a really hard time making eye contact with some people. I don't have autism or low self esteem. I do have SAD and fear a lot of people. I don't think she means to do it. Hopefully, you'll be understanding & try to help her feel less shy around you. Then maybe she'll build enough confidence with other people too. :)

I'd say it's due to low self-confidence or self esteem.
To be honest, I'm the same way because I have Social Anxiety, because the symptoms include hard time with eye contact because it makes me anxious when people are looking at me because of the thought that everyone is judging me so I try to avoid the feeling by looking away.
I'm not saying she has Social Anxiety, that's just what causes my low self esteem.

Also.. just because someone can't hold eye contact, it doesn't always mean it's Autism. That's really jumping to conclusions. There are many problems/disorders that people with can Autism have, but people without Autism can have them too

Me

Some people are very uncomfortable with eye contact.

I have a good friend who never looks anyone in the eyes. When you try to catch her eye, she glances away. It could be a variety of things: a comfort issue, a boundary issue, or just a profound dislike for engaging others in direct visual connection.

autism a mild case, i'd guess from the way you describe it.

She isn't comfortable with looking people in the eye. It's not your problem.

could be mild autism or trauma. she may have strabismus (cross eye)
