could my therapist/psychiatrist have me put in a mental hospital? could a regula!

Question: Could my therapist/psychiatrist have me put in a mental hospital? could a regular doctor?
ive been seeing a therapist since november and i started taking 20 mg celexa 3 weeks ago and have another appointment with my psychiatrist on the 13th, im really struggling with my anxiety, depression, and the urge to cut and i cut myself yesterday and my mom said that we are going to see a doctor on monday (i think she means a regular doctor, though idk if it would be my usual doctor or a different one). could my therapist, psychiatrist, or a regular doctor have me put in a mental hospital if they thought it might be the best way to help me?

Answers:

Technically yes, but it's rare people are admitted for depression, anxiety or self-harm these days.

my therapist sent me there today for cutting but not to the mental ward part..you will get evaluated before you go into a mental ward and they will see if you are going to kill other people or kill yourself and if they are positive you are they will send you there. it is not fun..to say the least. you have another patient in the room with you and you are literally locked in and padded.. you have all your rights taken away from you also. I thought maybe it would help but honestly it won't . they will probably give you a bunch of medication also and you'll be a zombie.

ANYBODY can have you committed for 72 hours. they must prove that you are a danger to yourself or others, if it is a doctor their word against yours is enough.

however, if it is not a true medical emergency, then there is nothing to be gained from you being detained.

i doubt cutting yourself is a true emergency

You are a great person and I hope you don't hurt yourself any more - after all surely you have suffered enough?

We are all great people - mistakes happen and we must forgive ourselves and others

only if you are deemed to be a danger to yourself or others
