My mum is diagnosed with Phychosis and Schizophrenia?!

Question: My mum is diagnosed with Phychosis and Schizophrenia?
What are the chances i have inherited these mental disorders...?

Answers:

First of all psychosis is a symptom of the schizophrenia. It means that the person can't tell the difference between real and unreal events, like hearing voices, or seeing things, smelling or feeling things. Voices is the most common one.

Your chances are most increased if you have 2 parents with a serious mental illness and if that is the case then you have a 50/50 chance. If only 1 of them has it then look at the rest of the family back a few generations, if a lot of them have mental illnesses then you are more liable to get it. Being brought up by a parent with a serious mental disorder which is not being treated very well increases the risk. You learn responses from them all the time. You probably have a 10% higher than average chance of being ill yourself in time.

Be aware of it and look for clues especially if you start to hear things others can't. Hormones and teen aged symptoms will not include voices as standard for sure.

Best ask her doctors. They can tell you best. Any way, try to inform yourself on the matter, so you can help her and loose your fear.

Depends, are the disorders Dominant or recessive? If they are recessive(which I'm assuming they are) and not having them is heterozygous dominant your chances are 50/50. If not having it is homzygous dominant then there is a 100% chance you do not have it.

Okay you have schizophrenia YOU need to talk to a doctor ASAP. Is that what you want to hear?

If you had these problems someone most likely would have noticed by now. Its not really something you can hide.
