how can i stop cutting? how can i have my mom help?!

Question: How can i stop cutting? how can i have my mom help?
ive been getting professional help (i see a therapist every other week and im on 20 mg celexa and i have been on it for 3 weeks and have another appointment with my psychiatrist in a few days) but im still struggling and therefore still cutting (though far less than i feel like cutting) and my mom just wants me to stop.

Answers:

its a really difficult habit to break but as you begin to feel better you will probably find yourself cutting less and less
give the anti depressants time to kick in and start working properly
in the meantime try to find another way to vent your emotions such as writing poetry /drawing /hitting a pillow etc

best wishes

One thing that helped someone I know when she was trying to stop cutting was wearing a pony tail holder around her wrist (you know.. just any boring elastic ponytail holder as long as it fits tightly) and every time she got the urge to cut, she would just pull back on the ponytail and let it hit her in the wrist to give her that stinging feeling without actually self mutilating.

cutting is an addiction like any other drug. it takes time to stop cutting. I am a recovering cutter so i understand how powerful the urge can be. personally i have found that online support sites like http://selfhelp.yuku.com are really helpful because it shows me that im not alone and that others feel the same way i do.

Im here for you. you arent alone. but recovery will be a long process.
