Why is OCD so weird yet powerful?!
Question: Why is OCD so weird yet powerful?
Answers:
You may not want to quote me on this, but OCD is magic. Humans are by nature ritualistic creatures. Rituals can be comforting. Some people like to have a drink after dinner, and others feel "nasty" if they don't shower every day. Ritual enforces conformity, which is very important. People who do not conform to others' standards are often marginalized. Etiquette is really a list of rituals to fit in with a group.
Now then, sometimes certain people have a need to ritualize everything so that nothing "bad" happens. People with OCD can irrationally believe that disaster will strike if they don't check the door lock ten times a a night or check the stove constantly.
