Every one of us has a phobia. I do know what you feel, because I am afraid of dogs like that. I know my advice isn't the greatest, but... You just survive it.. I have to do it every day by going to school.

Shouldn't the electricity be plugged off with thunderstorm?

Well I can tell you that what your mother says about the pans isn't affecting your fear of thunderstorms. However people are scared of different things. Remember that FEAR is False Evidence Appearing Real. Lets look at the actual truth of these thunderstorms........ You haven't been hit by lightening, you haven't been knocked to the floor from a clap of thunder, the sky hasn't sent clouds down to cover you and your house. (I actually like thunderstorms) However I am scared of other things but you have to know the proof or truth to the storms and take a deep breath next time and know that the truth will prevail as you will be just fine dear.

A lot of people are afraid of thunderstorms & their doctors didn't bang pans together when their mom was pregnant with them. A thunderstorm can get really bad & cause damage & injuries to people if it gets bad enough. Loud thunder scares me, but i LOVE thunderstorms. You're not alone...believe me. Have you ever been around a dog & observed their behavior during a thunder storm? Most dogs are terrified too. It can be a scary event. Don't think anything is wrong with you. There are a lot of things you can do when you are afraid of a thunderstorm. Some people say that when it rains God is crying & when you hear thunder this means God is angry. Don't know if i believe that...but there are always going to be thunderstorms & you may always fear them...goes for a lot of people.

Some people do the stupidest things when pregnant trying to force nature to move faster. Having sex and eating curry used to be the favourites. I think it may have triggered the response to noises - as you worked out yourself. It's possible to get PTSD post traumatic stress disorder in uteri so consider therapy, EMDR if possible to help you recover and move on. EMDR is good for phobias as well so it should make a difference.

I doubt banging pans together has anything to do with your fear. My grandma used to tell me when I was small it was God upsetting his wagon of potatoes so that's what I told my kids when they were afraid and it helped their fear. I would suggest putting a sleep mask on over your eyes and lay down with your music (portable CD player) in your ears until the storm has passed. Play it loud enough to drown out the sounds of the storm and sing along if you have to so you can't hear anything. Light a candle so your room will smell good... something lavender calms you so try to get a lavender candle and see how that works.
