What is the link between excessive noise and experiencing psychosis?!

Question:

What is the link between excessive noise and experiencing psychosis?

My friend live less than a mile away from the airport, and she swears she started hearing voices because of the constant airplane noise. When we talk on the phone, the conversation gets interupted about, I swear, every two minutes by an airplane flying over. They are so loud that I can hear them through the phone. She can't sleep, and she tries to block out the sound, but she says the airplane noise make her sick to her stomach. She's moving soon, but could that really cause psychosis, specifically, hearing voices?

Answers:

One problem with planes is not just the noise, but they can make the building (and hence the person's body) vibrate, too. I remember reading research a while ago about how bad it is for people's sense of well being to live near noisy airports.

I am sooooo glad she is moving! Being near the airport can't make someone psychotic, but it can make you neurotic.
