Question:

I am gradually coming off an anti-anxiety drug called Clanazepam. I am having terrible withdrawal symptoms,?

including intense fear (stronger than what I started with), shaking, and palpitations. How long will it take for these withdrawal symptoms to go away after I have taken the last dose?

Answers:

The drug you are withdrawing from is a anti-anxiety/anti-convusant agent that falls into the drug classification called BENZODIAZEPINES.

The most important thing to do when tapering off this type of medication is to do is VERY gradually to avoid the very withdrawal symtoms that you are unfortuneately experiencing. It must be terrifying for you, but please know that if you consult your prescribing doctor and tell him/her of your predicament, I am sure that they will give you a titration plan that will not cause you to suffer so!

PLEASE contact your prescribing doc STAT (right away).

I do not know how much you were taking before you started to taper off, but the usual titration is 0.25 mg. decrease every 7 - 10 days.

I hope this helps you and that you are feeling better soon.

PS The drug is CLONAZEPAM. :)
