Friendship break up?!

Question:

Friendship break up?

My best friend and I had a rocky relationship fora while. It has been one sided for a long time. I sat down and wrote to her and explained how I felt and explained that I felt used even though she may not be aware of her actions.

She told a mutual friend of ours, that she was done with me and that "she can just take her husband, and shove it!". Apparently she has been jealous of my marriage all this time.

The letter was regarding my relationship with her. I did mention that I have adult responsibilities and I can't act like I'm single and live my life as if I still live at home. She would rather go clubbing every weekend and I can't as much.

She had invited me to a show a few months back. The show is this weekend and she hasn't informed me that she univitied me. She had invited our mutual friend to take my place.

The ball is in her court and she hasn't responded yet. I asked her to contact me when she is ready to sit down and figure things out between us.

Question: Is it normal to not feel bad about terminating a long term relationship? But actually feel bad about not feeling bad about breaking up?

Answers:

It's normal not to feel bad in this situation. It's really tough to fall out with someone you've known for a long time, and really hard to realise that actually, the friendship doesn't work any more. It sounds as if you have acted honourably in writing to her, being clear and direct - but she hasn't been able to respond in a way that really meets your wish to be real/honest with her.

It is very sad to lose a friendship, but you do need to look after yourself and find friends that make you feel good. You have done all you can - don't feel bad.
