What would you do if...?

What would you do if you wanted to get a restraining order against someone but you don't want your parents to know that you got this restraining order. I sometimes feel that this person follows me or is always waiting for me to leave my house so that he can follow me. I seen him yesterday and I freaked out. I didn't want to go home cuz I thought he would be at my home waiting for me to go home that he could do something to me. I dont' know maybe I'm just paranoid. Please help give me some ideas of what to do. The police have been no help thus far and I don't want my parents to know if I do decide to get a restraining order.

My parents won't help me in this matter. I told them about what happened and they just tell me that I'm paranoid and that I over react. They don't get it and they won't help me.

Hi. I'm not sure how old you are. It sounds like you are still living at home. Telling your parents - even though they are not perceiving the threat as accurately as you would like - was a good first step.

Is this someone you know? If so, have you told the person to stop following you?

Perhaps it is dangerous to even tell him because it would open up conversation. Since I don't know you, I'm not sure.

It boils down to this: you need to do whatever you can (within the law - restraining order) to protect yourself.

If your parents do not understand, that is truly unfortunate.

If you are under 18, I'm not sure if you are able to pursue this without a parent. You would have to check into it.
