Best antidepressant?!

Question:

Best antidepressant?

I was on prozac for many years and it worked well, then after so many years of being on it( 8 years) my Dr. and I decieded to try something differant , so we tried zolfot, paxil and am now on effxor. at first I thought effxor was the best but after about 9 mon. I not so sure it is really working that well for me, I am thinking I should go back to prozac. And which one do you think contributes the most to weight gain? Anyone have any ideas?

Answers:

Best in present day drug treatment is a matter of relativity,as so many drugs are being researched and in the pipe line for marketing.

The important thing is what suits u .

If u r on drugs for along time and feel u cannot do without them,u may as well try out adjunctive therapies like CBT after consultation with ur doctor.

Alternative therapies are effective in a considerable number of cases of depression and bereft of the side effects, additionally u get a chance to be more actively involved in ur own improvement especially if ur depression is not serious .

...drugs such as Prozac and Zoloft were believed to cause weight loss. Indeed, many antidepressants seem to be associated with an initial small loss, but new studies show that over months, patients not only regain what they lose, but add to it -- sometimes dramatically.

Maybe the fact that many people don't eat when depressed may have some impact. As the drug begins to work, the depression eases, and appetite may resume.

These popular drugs are likely to cause weight gain:
Paxil (paroxetine)
Marplan (isocarboxazid)
Lexapro (escitalopram)

Weight neutral for most:
Prozac (fluoxetine)
Luvox (fluvoxamine)
Zoloft (sertraline)
Celexa (citalopram)
Wellbutrin (buproprion

Lexapro (escitalopram) and Wellbutrin (bupropion) are two well known
anti-depressants that reportedly cause little to no weight gain.
