Answers:

Self injurous behavior is very addicting. I came across this pretty much my whole life with myself as well as the teens I have helped to councel.
There is something in your life that is triggering the need to hurt yourself. Whether it be home life, life in school (fitting in, bullies, grades etc.) or some type of tramatic event there is something that is triggering the need for the pain.
The physical pain can help you cope or even take away the emotional pain you are experiencing.
For me it was home life. I was the oldest of three girls in my house. My mom and dad were both working parents and didn't have much time for us growing up. My sisters and I didn't get along growing up. One of my sisters was sick most of the time and required alot of my parents attention. I was an A & B student who spent most of my time writting poetry. It was a coping skill of mine. I came across cutting when a friend showed me how to do it. It become a nightly ritual. I would cut my ankles. This went on for a while. I finally began talking about my problems to my parents as well as my friends. I didn't know I was holding my own in home theraputic sessions. I was holding in alot of anger towards my family members and didn't know why or where it came from. I was lucky my parents were not abusive... Just didn't manage time well with their children.

I found by working with alot of todays youth that there is always an underlying problem. Something that is triggering the need of self mutilation.

If you find yourself needing the fix of pain in order to cover up any type of feelings you have you need help. Whether its from a councelor or some type of teen therapy sessions. There are many places that can help with this issue. You also need to know that self mutilation can esculate to other problems as you get older if they are not addressed. By you asking this question it shows you know there might be a problem and now that you know there might be one it wouldn't hurt for you to seek some type of help.
