Okay really need help on husband here!?!

Question:

Okay really need help on husband here!?

My husband told me last week he wanted a divorce for no reason. He was really mean about it and hurtful unlike him. He has never been so mean. Then I sit down and have a talk with him and he cant remember anything that happened last week. At work or home anywhere. This has been going on for 7 years. Off and on. This week he tells me hes in love with me and he is basically back to normal and all. But it still bothers me all the stuff he said. His face scared me he had this blank look on his face. Ive seen him throw his hand through 2 walls when he was mad. He doesn't remember stuff when he gets mad. I have two children with him. He is starting to scare me.
Come to find out his Grandma is on anti depressants and bi polar meds, his mom is on bi polar meds, and his sister is on depression meds. Should I have every right to ask him to get checked out. Is that bad of me? Anybody living with some one before meds and after meds. What signs do I need to look for. I dont want to wait to long.

Answers:

yes - you need to identify what is the best time of day for both of you - ( you still love him - right?) ok so at that time - say over dinner and served the favorite food - tell him your concerns that this issue is threatening "our love for each other" it is very important to get across that this is "our problem" and not his - and "we" will approach this together as a family and that he is not singled out as the sicko or bad guy or at fault - just like any other illness and that "we" together will go and get ourselves evaluated at the county or community mental health clinic by a psychiatrist (making an appointment for early in the morning is best - before the crowds and to get out early- then reward yourself with a lunch at a favorite place)- and "we" will both write down our immediate concerns to be asked and answered by the psychiatrist. if medications become involved - he has the right to refuse any treatment or meds but first lets look into what it is , what it is supposed to do, and side effects - and then lets go home - talk about it and schedule a second appointment to come back for a follow up. a good lab workup may also be in order to rule out any physical disorders - lets error on the side of being conservative until we can for sure get a professional to identify the issues going on. may i make another suggestion = national alliance for the mentally ill (NAMI) info helpline - 1-800950-6264 they are families in the same position helping each other. later "we" can educate the kids because knowledge is power and we want to be aware of what was learned and what to look for in our children and what our children can do to be supportive instead of scared and traumatized. - its a loving family that sticks together thru thick and thin and supports each other and that will help everyone to get better - good luck and God bless you - try also to get a collection of 24 hour hot lines, warmlines , talk lines and identify any positive support like bipolar or depressive support groups and keep an active list on the fridge , bedroom , in your purse or wallet - good luck
