Question:

My brother has autism. help?

my little brother dillon has serious autism, he is non verbal. meaning he cannot talk. it has been like this since he was two, and now he is eleven. im 13 and although its been forever, im losing it. i cry all the time for him, and i have terrible thoughts about times when he got lost, and break in's around my neighborhood. all i need is a little reasurrance. i read all the books. i just need to deal..

can anyone here help me?

Dear Taylor, You are grieving. It's just like when someone dies- you miss them and you miss what might have been. Of course your brother is very much alive, but you are missing the brother he would have been if he didn't have autism. You will problably feel like this off and on, especially as other kids start to do things that your brother can't do yet.

This doesn't mean that you don't love him and it doesn't mean you don't accept him. It just means that you are growing up and you realize how hard life can be.

I can't tell you how things will turn out for your brother. But I can tell you that you sound like a sister who has gone through a lot. I pray that GOd will comfort you and guide you.
