People with Panic Attacks, i have a question please!?!

Question:

People with Panic Attacks, i have a question please!?

Ok, so i have panic attacks, but they have always been very small and during the day. I took my 1st dose of zoloft 2 days ago, it caused insomnia BAD and i started getting hot flashes, sweats/chills, and shaking......

i stopped taking the pill (so i onyl took the 1 dose) and then when i went to bed last night, it was the same thing, the dizzy hot flashes and nervousness.....why did it happen 2 nights in a row??? is that normal for panic attacks??? is my mind like thinking its gonna happen so it does because it happend in the same situation the night before? thanks....

p.s. are there any, 'take as needed' pills for anxiety that help you relax? someone mentions like, valume? or valium?

Answers:

You're describing an allergic reaction to the Zoloft. 15% of people who take an SSRI such as Prozac get panic attacks. Call your doctor and tell him/her what you experienced.

As to the answer in your second paragraph, I believe that you had a panic attack because you felt like it was going to happen, so it did. Sometimes panic attacks can be brought on just by the fear of having one.

As to your third paragraph, there are helpful "as needed" pills to take for panic attacks. But they are only helpful if you have other tools to use to control your panic attacks. Then they can be really helpful. I went through medication and therapy to reach a point in my recovery so that I received useful tools to use in my recovery. I survived Hurricane Andrew, but I'm still afraid, and likely so, of severe thunderstorms. I live in a trailer, which makes it even worst. So to help with the anxiety, I do deep breathing and tell myself that I'm safe which I am once I evacuate to a safe house. But then I'm not afraid of putting one milligram of Ativan under my tongue to take the edge off of my anxiety when I need it. I hope you feel better and my best advice to you is to go through medication and therapy both.
