Is it immoral to steal/swap an office monitor screen?!

Question:

Is it immoral to steal/swap an office monitor screen?

Hi.

I have a terrible obsession because my monitor screen has a slant of 1 mm. At least in my HEAD it does! -So I don't use this one. Now, at work there is another office where I think no one is sitting. Would it be immoral to change monitors? I'm sure most people don't notice these tiny things. (gulp)

Ok. It would have to be in the evenings. And I would have to try to smile at the evening security guards and pretend everything is is just normal.

Answers:

Lol. That evil monitor! Yes, you could probably get away with it, and swapping of course is not the same as stealing. It IS the company's equipment, not any individual's. It is meant for use by the employees, so you would not be stealing from anyone. But I would actually have to agree with Fidget on this one, though. To do it discreetly may give you the feeling that you have done something behind someone's back, and that may weigh on your conscious. Then afterwards you may be constantly worrying about whether or not someone has noticed. And asking first would just look better to your boss, just in case someone did notice. Simply tell your boss, "If you don't mind, I'm going to swap out this monitor for that one over there." No need to tell her why unless she asks. Tell her with confidance. The more confidance you use when telling her, the less likely she will be to say no for any reason. And if you don't make it seem like a big deal to her, the more she will get the idea that you are not obsessing, you just simply have a preference for your work environment, to be able to get the most out of your work day. Many people are like that. Don't tell her of course that it is off 1mm and it is driving you up the wall. :) Just act like it is no big deal, because it is really not. People swap things at work all the time for their own preferences and needs. You need to be comfortable. If she asks why, just tell her something like "The screen just slants a little, and I was looking at that one over there, and it seems to not have that problem. I beleive I could just focus more on my work a little better if I had a different one." And use a big charming smile. :) That doesn't sound obsessive. I'm sure it would not be a problem at all.

Or just find some way to discreetly smash the screen in with a hammer, in a way that made it look like an accident. Then you would have an excellant excuse!

But whatever you decide to do, I'm wishing you the best on this. Good luck. :)
