I've been suffering depression for a very long time, but have never wanted to take anti-depressants because of the stigma and I worry about becoming dependent on them.
Are they safe to take? How long would I need to take them initially? And what are the risks?

No never go for anti-depressants. Find the cause of depression . Write down the possible solution point wise. Think over each possibilities . Still you did not get solution then simply accept the situation. In this life we have to live with certain pain accept this facts. Don' t lead a masking life, present yourself for society as you are. Mind it every drug has side effects.
