Lithium???!

Question:

Lithium???

I have been on anti depressants ie. Efexor, Zoloft and I cant even remember all the rest. I have now been put on Lithium, 600mg a day, and I am just really confused. I have only been taking the Lithium for about 1 week, but have been getting really bad side effects. The docs think I have Vertigo, as my world just wont stop spinning, and I am having trouble walking. Can anybody out there help me? Is the Vertigo a side effect from the Lithium. The spinning and stuff did start before I started the Lithium, but I still think it has something to do with the new tablets. The docs have booked me in for an MRI scan on my brain in the coming few days, and I just dont know whether I should keep taking the lithium, or stop all medications together?? I would really appreciate any advise possible!!

Answers:

some anti-depressants produce vicious side effects like shaking, tremors, nervousness, dizzyness twitching. lithium does not have any of those side effects but............ lithium is very strong has a tremoundous amount of sodium in it that works with the blood system and central nervous system. a lot of people can not take this drug as it causes severe swelling, problems breathing. you said this started before the lithium but got worse when you take it. if this becomes a problem stop the medication and demand he put you on something else. lithium is prescribed for those who are bi-polar, severly manic or highly agitated. i was once on some potent anti-depressants and i experienced the same symptoms as MS and when i stopped the med the symptoms went away immediatly. if you suffer from moderate depression lithium is not the choice i would take.
