My mom is diabled and she smokes when she is very tired and I am afraid shes going to burn the house down!!?

She is disabled and smokes when almost asleep or asleep and I am afraid what can I do?

She is 56 and I am not taking her cigarettes away from her for good. I smoke too and that is just wrong. I take care of her most of the time and I am not going to compromise our relationship by doing that.

Tell your mom that your afraid she'll die by cigarette and buy a smoke alarm to put close to her. Not so close that it'll go off when she lights up, but close enough to detect when danger may be present...and invest in a small personal fire distinguisher to put by her side. Tell her it's not to be mean, it's just that you love her. Also, when I was a nurse aide, one patient had M.S. real bad and burnt holes in all her clothes with cigs. Someone made kind of a homemade personal hooka. You put the cig in in and smoke thru a small tube. That way she would never drop it and if she fell asleep, she wouldn't go up in flames. They put it in a pie tin.
