Why am i having constant nightmares?!

Question:

Why am i having constant nightmares?

the nightmares are all about me being at a loved one's wake/funeral (loved ones who are still alive). i have nightmares every night. i've also been having anxiety about death during the day when i'm awake. i think i'm having this anxiety because of these dreams. i should also mention i'm on a medication called abilify (which is a sedative that helps anxiety). i'm bipolar, but why am i still having anxiety and having constant nightmares every night?

What the second answerer said is true. I was on Seroquel a few years ago and I had horrible nightmares/night terrors. They were so realistic and upsetting, that it carried over into my every day life also. These medications for depression and/or anxiety are actually intended to correct chemical imbalances in the brain, and sometimes what they are trying to "correct" might be one of the areas where your chemical balance is fine (for lack of a better way to describe it). You might have to try several different medications for short periods of time before your doctor finally prescribes one that works with the intended purpose for you, with no side effects. Contact your doctor ASAP and tell him/her the problems you are having. Staying on a medication that you are reacting so severely to can be dangerous. A lot of people think "side effects" are just physical symptoms, and that's not always the case. In fact, sometimes the mental/emotional/psychological side effects can be more hazardous to your health than the physical ones (think about it - it's your BRAIN reacting to a medication)! Please contact your doctor! Take care, and good luck to you!
