Depression?!

Question:

Depression?

I've been sad for over a year now and i have gotten medication for depression and i took it for about 6 months but it didn't feel like it was working, so i stopped taking it. i'm not sure i have depression, because i have mood swings alot. the smallest things make me sad and when they happen i just can't control it, i just want to curl up and wait for the feelings to go away. I've been dating a guy and in the beginning it was great, he made me feel really good and i thought i finally got rid of the deppression, but he can say the smallest thing now and i fall apart. could he have brought my depression back? what should i do? i don't really want to break up with him, but we really arn't getting along that great. I don't want to break up with him if it's the depression and if things will get better. thanks

Answers:

yes, sounds like depression to me. although your medicine didn't work for you, there are many different medicines out there, and some work for some people and others don't. i currently take paxil cr myself, and it works great for me, but i tried many different medicines that didn't work at all or kinda freaked me out more before i tried paxil. what you need to do is goto your doc and tell them it didn't work for you, you can tell them how you feel, etc. sometimes talking to a shrink really helps. i found that it really depends on the doctor and the phych to tell you the truth. your current relationship might not be so great, and im not an expert on that, but you do whatcha gotta do. although i will say that getting out of a relationship can cause alot of depression(i know from expieriance). different things depress people in different ways, and everyone is different! lol the best thing i can suggest, is try different meds, try to be as stress free as possible, start slowing down in your life(cook instead of fast food, drive slower, enjoy nature, walk in the park, take notice to things you never did before, etc.), its hard but its a goal, and its always good to have goals in our lives. cheer yourself up anyway you can. watch comedies, make new friends, go do something you've never done before, go on a vacation, etc!

good luck to you, im sure you'll do fine. :0)
