Question:

I am wondering without referring to anything religious please, what kind of therapy is best?

This is for an adult survivor of childhood molestation and other tragedies that occurred in childhood and throughout early adulthood and has tried many different forms of therapy and self help books, yada yada yada and has finally had a moment of clarity where she realized that the arguments and fights in her life and her unhappiness mostly occur because of the walls and defenses she built, and that she lives life on the defense still and that happiness has felt elusive all of her life but she is becoming aware of the idea that maybe she might have something to do with all of the misery in her life.

this is not a judgement at all, but i really am looking for answers that are non religious, this person wants some resolution in her life and not to chase everyone away to be a lonely old spinster but for her, religion/spirituality in any context doesnt work so answers of that sort really dont help but thanks and otherwise, still looking.

Answers:

Sounds like now is the best time for therapy. Therapy really works best when the patient wants it, and wants a change to happen.
It may be that she can use any skills she's acquired in the previous therapy to better herself after this moment of clarity. She may not necessarily have to go back.
If she wants more therapy, I would recommend weeding out the psychiatrists from psychologists. She should find someone she is comfortable with. If she's more comfortable with a male or female, then that narrows down the choices. If she doesn't want someone religiously affiliated, that also narrows it down. It comes down to her comfort level, so that she can work on those walls of defense.
She might also consider a life coach, who could help her with any ways that she has hindered herself. This could mean finding a great career, doing communications activities, and other things that might be slightly out of her comfort zone at first.
Good luck to her on her new journey!
