How do you know when your highs and lows are normal or indicative or an underlyi!

Question:

How do you know when your highs and lows are normal or indicative or an underlying mood disorder?

I have mood swings, I've experienced some pretty bad depressions in my life and thought some strange thoughts all high on myself, but how do I know when something isn't okay. I've been having periods of high and low moods since I was a child!

Answers:

In this case you should write down every day in a diary how feel, and get your family members to do the same thing, this way you can get different perspectives on the same problem. To me it sounds like you might have cyclothymic (type 3) bipolar disorder. Check it out with your doctor psychiatrist just in case.
