The last time I flew was when I was like 8 years old. I dont remeber it much. Im 13 now. This summer my mom said that i could pick a place to go. So i picked Paris, France. The thing is Im so scared of flying after 9/11. What can I do not to be scared.. What are some things I can do to keep my mind off if it.

Answers:

well, keeping informed with world politics will help. currently no one is attacking france, so you really don't need to worry. if your panic is really about terrorism, try to understand that hijacking another plane doesn't seem to be the current modus operandi for radicals. "its been done," callus as it may sound. Here's my advice (and my personal ritual) for trans-atlantic flights:

Rescue Remedy. Its a spray (or drops) you can pick up at your local health food store. Take a few sprays (or four drops) before going through airport security.

OTC sleeping pills, like Tylenol PM to take on the plane (try to time taking them with your arrival. if you're arriving in france during the day, take them as soon as you board, if you're arriving at night, take them 1/2 way through the flight).

Tuck a hankerchief soaked in lavendar oil, into your purse. Wrap around your neck as you sleep, it'll keep you relaxed.

Don't forget your iPod or CD player with your favorite musics or a book on MP3 to distract you while you're awake. One friend I had was flying to Italy and put her italian tutorials on her mp3 player and just visualized Italy the whole trip over.

Keep yourself visually stimulated: pack a copy of French Vogue or something else related to the fabulous vacation that lies ahead of you. (if you have a personal DVD player, get 'The Devil Wears Prada', Moulin Rouge and other French related movies!)

Read this article from Forbes Magazine: http://www.forbes.com/2007/05/10/travel-... and get yourself some goodies for the plane

If you're busy focusing on keeping yourself pretty, you wont have time to worry. It sounds shallow, but a trans-atlantic flight can wreck your skin (dry air--use a small water spray bottle like the ones sephora sells--drys out face), your body (moisturize every 3 hours, drink lots of water, skip the booze) and your hair (wrap it a silk scarf).
